Our shipping Company consists of a 21-ship fleet, between owned and leased ships, for a total capacity of 40,200 TEU and 62,500 line meters; most of them are ro/ro units.
Over the last years Ignazio Messina & C. has centered its business plan on a development strategy which included a huge investment to renovate its owned fleet.

The 6 new vessels are the result of Italian excellence, as they have been entirely designed by the Company engineering specialists and they fly the Italian flag, although they were built in the Korean shipyards DSME and STX.
The new Jolly ships, nicknamed "Precious" (Jolly Diamante, Jolly Perla, Jolly Cristallo, Jolly Quarzo, Jolly Vanadio, and Jolly Palladio), are the biggest ro/ro containerships in the world, and, compared with the old units, they offer:

- larger loading capacity: from 26,900 to 45,200 tons (+70%);
- more efficient transport service: from 0.51 to 0.44 tons a ship for every loading cargo ton (-14%);
- higher environmental care: from 65g to 33g of CO2 every ton of loaded cargo.

As a matter of fact, these new vessels are characterized by advanced technology and are equipped with the most innovative anti-pollution systems: they are fitted out with a sophisticated exhaust gas cleaning system that can be used at the berth as well as at the sea. Our significant respect for the environment is demonstrated by the awarding of RINA GREENPLUS certifications.

The Precious Jolly vessels are highly specialized and guarantee extreme flexibility. Indeed, they can even operate in ports which are not equipped with ship-to-shore cranes. The large loading stern ramp has a width of 12.5 m of minimum useful passage, and the stern hold door is 27 m long and 7 m high: this structure allows to load any type of cargos, including containers, commercial vehicles, and special and heavy goods. On board, there are three large independent gateways: one leads to the promenade deck, another to the main deck, and the last one to the lower decks.

All the leased ships are full containers and can carry only containers and rolling stocks on platforms; for this reason, loading and unloading procedures are performed by ship-to-shore cranes.
