Special and Project Cargo

Specialization is our strength.


The history and tradition we have behind us has allowed us to acquire greater and greater ability and experience in developing avant-garde solutions for moving and stowing special cargos. Thanks to several important investments in highly specialized equipment such open top, platforms, and mafi trailers, today Ignazio Messina & C. is able to offer regular scheduled services for project cargos even if they have outstanding size and weight.

This attitude has been recently reinforced with the purchase of the eight new ship units provided with a stern loading ramp, which has been designed to allow the transport of special cargos and of plant engineering materials. The ramp can carry a maximum weight of 350 tons and has a 12.5 m of useful passage; the stern door is 27 m wide and 7 m high.

The new fleet allows us to offer a wide range of cargo solutions to our clients. Additionally, we are currently developing a further plan for ship equipment in order to implement our services and transport solutions.

Because of these reasons, our Company proves to be an efficient and strong alternative to bulk shipping.

Ro/Ro

Our operational Flexibility

1968 represented a turning point: the fleet was improved and the traditional merchant vessels were gradually replaced at the beginning with ro/ro ships and then with ro/ro containerships.


The eight new ships were put into service between 2011 and 2015 and they have considerably increased our loading capacity. Thanks to our fleet, to the efficient and safe transport system, and to our staff, that is highly trained to obtain the best stowage and transport arrangements, we offer a regular line service for rolling cargos of different shapes and weights.

All of this allows us to include among our most loyal customers some of the major manufacturers of vehicles, ranging from common automobiles to pick-up and to bigger facilities used in constructions (concrete mixer, cranes, etc...), as well as any other kind of highly specialized machineries.

LMCU, a brand which means diversified and flexible solutions

From 1970s, Ignazio Messina & C has gradually changed its business, becoming nowadays highly specialized in container cargo shipping.


Today our container fleet is made up of over than 48,000 units that encompass different kinds of models (box, high cube, open top, platform, and flat-rack), for a total amount of about 70,000 TEU. Most of them are owned, and the rest are leased from third parties.

Thanks to the wide range of equipment, we can satisfy all of our clients' requests about cargo loading: from items that can be stowed in containers to the most particular shipments which need specialized facilities.

All of our containers are CSC (Convention for Safe Containers) certified and are subject to ACEP (Approved Continuous Examination Program) certification according to the rules of classification registers for an appropriate maintenance of equipment.
